Samsung unveiled the new 200-megapixel ISOCELL HPC camera sensor, designed to improve photography quality in various conditions; however, contrary to expectations, this sensor likely will not be used in the Galaxy S27 series and even the flagship Galaxy S27 Ultra.
According to ITNA quoting TechAdvisor, Samsung manufactured this sensor mainly to supply other smartphone makers.
The ISOCELL HPC sensor is introduced with new DeepPix technology which, according to Samsung, increases each pixel’s light absorption capacity by up to 60 percent compared to the previous generation. This technology, by using the advanced Front Deep Trench Isolation or FDTI structure, increases photodiode capacity and shared circuitry, resulting in better light absorption performance of the sensor.
Other features of this 200-megapixel camera include noise reduction, a wider dynamic range, and improved HDR performance. This sensor supports HDR at all zoom levels as well as single-frame 16-bit HDR. 4K recording at 180 frames per second also enables capturing high-quality slow-motion videos.
In terms of basic specifications, the ISOCELL HPC is very similar to the main camera of the Galaxy S26 Ultra and uses a 1/1.3-inch sensor with 0.6-micron pixels and Super Quad Phase Detection autofocus. However, Samsung apparently intends to make this sensor available to rival companies. Phones from Vivo, Xiaomi, and Oppo are expected to be equipped with this camera.
In contrast, rumors about the Galaxy S27 series mention the use of the ISOCELL HP6 sensor. That sensor will also likely be 200 megapixels and 1/1.3 inches and offer some improvements similar to the HPC. Therefore, although the Galaxy S27 may see a notable camera upgrade, Samsung’s best new 200-megapixel sensor will likely be seen first in rival phones.
