Water resources in past and present

In the past, when the island's population was between 1000 and 2000 people, the water available on the island was sufficient at that time for residents' drinking, even for use by passing ships and for limited agricultural purposes. At that time the island, within its limits, had water supply facilities such as cisterns, ponds, and large and small wells of varying depths in the northern part (the current Darkht-e Sabz area) and experienced drought less often.
In old texts the water and water reserves of Kish Island are described as follows: "The water that comes from the island's wells has a good and sweet taste. Ships generally resort to this island for drinking water. The depth of the island's wells is between 5 and 10 meters and a large amount of water is obtained from them without difficulty." Among the major and well-known wells scattered in the inhabited parts of Kish Island, the following wells can be mentioned:
The well called "Momazar" in the kasbah "Masheh" in the eastern part of the island, with the surrounding earthen embankment formed like a dam to direct rainwater into the well during the rainy season.

The well called "Safa" is located in the village of "Sajm" in the northern part of the island.

The well called "Bala" is between the villages of "Deh" and "Safin" in the eastern part of the island, and both of these villages use its water.

What can be inferred about Kish Island's carrying capacity from past texts is the island's small population relative to its area, limited local construction, and lack of extensive alteration, which did not disrupt the island's favorable environmental equilibrium.

At present the island's fresh water that is in the piping network is obtained from the combined desalination units.
