Kish Island, with an area of 91 square kilometers, a shoreline of 43 kilometers and an overall almost oval shape, is located 18 kilometers from Bandar Aftab on the Iranian mainland in the Persian Gulf. Kish lies in the first quarter of the southern Iran coastline at the mouth of the Persian Gulf and almost near the terminal part of this waterway in the Strait of Hormuz area. Its northern latitude is 26°32′ and its eastern longitude is 53°58′, and from the west coast to the east coast it has a length of 15.45 kilometers. The maximum width of the island from the south coast to the north coast is 7.5 kilometers. The surface of the island lacks distinct topography such as mountains or even high hills. Kish International Airport is located in the center and on its elevated part which is about 35–40 meters high. The greatest slope of the island is from the north of the airport toward the coast.
