Vivo X500 may become one of the first phones equipped with a 2nm chip before the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
According to Etna via Phonearena, Vivo announced in a teaser on the Weibo social network that the X500 series will use a MediaTek Dimensity chip based on 2nm process technology. This could heat up the competition between Vivo, Samsung and MediaTek in the next generation of flagship phones.
According to published information, the Vivo X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max models will be equipped with a 2nm chip. Although Vivo has not announced the exact name of the chip, rumors point to the possible use of the Dimensity 9600 Pro. It is said this chip is built on TSMC N2P second-generation 2nm process and uses a new GPU architecture and a very high-performance NPU.
The X500 series' focus is not only on processing power; camera capabilities will also be an important part of these phones. The Pro models reportedly feature a new imaging chip that supports 4K recording at 120 frames per second with 10-bit Log color, autofocus and subject tracking in 4K at 60 frames, Dolby Portrait capability, and AI-assisted automatic generation of video highlights. Hardware-level video resolution enhancement is also another possible feature of this imaging system.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip; a chip that is also said to be built on TSMC's second-generation 2nm technology. Both chips apparently use a 2+3+3 core architecture and abandon traditional efficiency cores. An important difference between them could be operating frequency; the Snapdragon's potential frequency is reported at about 5.01 GHz and the Dimensity 9600 Pro's frequency at about 4.55 GHz.
But the chip price could be Vivo's trump card. Rumors estimate the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 at over $300 and the Dimensity 9600 Pro at about $216. That price difference is cited as one of the possible reasons for a Galaxy S27 Ultra price increase to about $1,499.
