A long and turbulent wait for the unveiling of the second-generation Tesla Roadster is finally drawing to a close.
The electric automaker, in a post published on Saturday (September 12, 2026) on the social network X, showcased itself with only this short phrase: “Get ready for launch.” Alongside this message, an image titled “10.01” was also released, which leads to the expectation that the official unveiling of the new Roadster will take place on October 1, 2026 (Mehr 9, 1405). It appears this image also alludes to cold gas thrusters; a technology developed by Elon Musk’s other major company, SpaceX, which is expected to optionally enable short-duration flight for this vehicle.
The second generation of this Tesla sports car was first introduced in November 2017 (Aban 1396), but since then it has repeatedly been delayed. These delays even became a public dispute last year (2025) on social media between Elon Musk and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. Altman, who had previously paid fifty thousand dollars to reserve the car, said at the time: “Seven and a half years seems like a long time to wait,” while Musk, in a mocking tone, insisted that Altman had previously refunded his payment.
According to TechCrunch, the website The Information recently reported that the original design of this car introduced in 2017 has been completely set aside and a brand-new design will replace it; a design that has not yet been officially unveiled, but whose unveiling will happen soon.
Elon Musk has previously stated that even after this major unveiling event, mass production of the Roadster will not begin for another twelve to eighteen months.
