The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable phone and, although the company entered the foldable phone market about seven years later than some rivals, it will likely achieve significant commercial success.
According to ITNA quoting PhoneArena, one of the main reasons for this forecast is the different way the iPhone Duo is being marketed; Apple introduced this product from the start as a device for everyday use by ordinary users.
According to Mark Gurman, a journalist close to Apple, the company has taken a different approach in unveiling the iPhone Duo compared to some of its previous major products. In advertising this phone, Apple has focused on benefits that are tangible for the average consumer, including watching video on a larger screen and a better mobile gaming experience on the inner display.
This approach also differs from Apple’s experience introducing earlier products. The original iPhone was first presented as a tool for using the internet, but later its advertising focus shifted to app-running capabilities. The Apple Watch was initially introduced more as a fashion and lifestyle product and only found more loyal audiences when health and fitness-related features became central.
Apple’s entry into the foldable phone market could go beyond the success of the iPhone Duo itself. Wide exposure of this phone in advertising and the media may draw more attention to foldable phones and even encourage companies that have shown little interest in this market so far to produce such products.
One notable feature of the iPhone Duo is the nano-texture coating on the inner display, which reduces light reflection by scattering incoming light and makes the display crease less noticeable. Of course, the appearance of this type of display may not appeal to all users.
Ultimately, even users who do not intend to enter the Apple ecosystem will likely benefit from increased competition in the market, because the success of the iPhone Duo could encourage Android phone makers to offer better and more diverse foldable models.
