OnePlus, after a long silence about its new flagship, has finally officially confirmed the launch of the OnePlus 16 in China.
According to ITNA quoting GSM Arena, the company announced via a message on the Weibo social network that the new phone will be introduced soon. Earlier reports had suggested the phone might be unveiled in October.
One of the most important confirmed features of the OnePlus 16 is system-wide support for a 165 Hz refresh rate. This indicates the high refresh rate will not be limited to the display and that the user interface and various system parts can also utilize it. Earlier rumors had mentioned a 165 Hz display for this phone, although a newer report even suggested the possibility of using an AMOLED panel with a 185 Hz refresh rate.
OnePlus has also confirmed that the OnePlus 16 will ship with ColorOS 17 based on Android 17. In the charging section, a phone purported to be the OnePlus 16 was recently seen in China’s certification database showing support for 100 W wired charging.
Alongside official specifications, leaked information also paints a powerful picture of OnePlus’s upcoming flagship. According to rumors, the phone could be equipped with a 200-megapixel main camera. There is also talk of the device using the unannounced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset.
Another possible feature of the OnePlus 16 is a very large 9000 mAh battery. If this information is accurate, OnePlus could offer one of the largest batteries among high-end flagships; a factor that, combined with 100 W fast charging, could target long-lasting usage.
Despite the official confirmation of the phone’s launch and the 165 Hz refresh rate, many of the OnePlus 16’s specifications remain rumors, and the final specs, price, and exact announcement date will have to wait for the company’s official statement.
