Unofficial reports indicate that the next generation of gaming graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD may not hit the market until 2028.

According to ITNA, citing TechSpot, the likely reason for this delay is continued strong demand for hardware used in artificial intelligence systems; a market that generates much higher revenue for chip and accelerator manufacturers than consumer products.

Based on statements from a well-known leaker (Kepler_L2) on the AnandTech forum, nearly all next-generation products from the two companies are projected for 2028 and manufacturing capacity remains affected by demand for AI accelerators. The only possible exception is an AMD chip named “AT2,” which is said to still be scheduled for next year.

This claim contradicts a recent YouTube channel report about Nvidia preparing to launch a new series of graphics cards in the first half of 2027. That report even suggested the flagship model of the new generation might be released, but the aforementioned leaker denied that timeline.

For AMD, the launch status of the next generation is also unclear. the company’s board partners previously said they do not have precise information about the release timing of the generation based on the “RDNA 5” architecture. Some of them suggested shipping could begin in mid or late 2027, while others pushed the launch to early 2028.

Among the unofficial information, AT2 has been mentioned as one of AMD’s next-generation chips. It is said this chip will use the RDNA 5 architecture and have 40 compute units. There is also talk of using 12 GB of video memory on a 192-bit memory bus, and this chip may be designed for an upper-midrange graphics card.

If released, AT2 could be in a range close to current powerful Nvidia cards and might even compete with models like the GeForce RTX 5080. However, all this information comes from third-party and unverified sources.

On the other side, Nvidia has shown strong focus on the next generation of data center AI hardware and unveiled systems based on the Vera Rubin architecture. There is still little official information about the company’s next-generation gaming cards. For AMD, there have been rumors about the next-generation flagship chip featuring high clock speeds, 12,288 cores, and 32 GB of GDDR7 memory; specifications that should still be treated with caution until official information is released.
