Honor has significantly increased battery capacity and imaging capabilities in the new generation of the Magic series. The Magic9 model is equipped with an 8,000 mAh battery and the more powerful Magic9 Super Edition uses a 11,000 mAh battery; a capacity that is very notable for a flagship smartphone.
OLED display and large battery
The Honor Magic9 is equipped with a 6.37-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2664 by 1236 pixels. This panel has a 120 Hz refresh rate and supports Dolby Vision and HDR technologies. The announced peak brightness for the display also reaches 2000 nits.
In the power section, the phone's 8,000 mAh battery supports 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Such capacity can be especially important for users who heavily use the display, camera, or mobile games.
The Magic9 Super Edition model has a larger display and is equipped with a 6.81-inch panel. Despite using a 11,000 mAh battery, the thickness of this phone is reported as only 8.1 mm and its weight 227 g. This model also supports 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
30,000 RPM fan to cool the phone
One of the distinguishing features of the Magic9 Super Edition is its active cooling system. Honor has used a small fan in this phone in addition to a vapor chamber, which can spin at speeds up to 30,000 revolutions per minute.
The purpose of this system is to dissipate heat produced during prolonged gameplay and heavy app use and to prevent performance drops caused by increasing temperature. According to Honor, the cooling system can dissipate up to 12 watts of heat.
Using a fan in smartphones is not new, but the combination of an active cooling system with a 11,000 mAh battery indicates the Super Edition is designed for users who prioritize sustained performance and heavy use.
200-megapixel cameras
Honor has also placed great emphasis on imaging capabilities in the camera section. The Magic9 is equipped with a 200-megapixel main camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor, accompanied by a 200-megapixel periscope camera and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera.
The company collaborated with ARRI to develop the imaging system and also uses the Honor H1 image processing chip based on artificial intelligence. The combination of high-resolution sensors with computational image processing allows the phone to perform a significant portion of photo processing in software.
The Magic9 also uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and in its highest configuration is equipped with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal storage. This phone is also resistant to water and dust.
Magic9 Super Edition for more professional photography and videography
In the Super Edition model, Honor has used a different camera combination. This phone has a 200-megapixel main camera alongside a 50-megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera.
The Honor H1 chip is also responsible for image processing. In addition to photography capabilities, this phone supports 4K video recording at 120 frames per second; a feature that enables capturing very smooth videos and creating high-resolution slow-motion effects.
Honor has also used a dedicated zoom lens named G200 in this model to enhance imaging capabilities across different focal lengths.
Simultaneous focus on battery, camera, and performance
The Magic9 series was introduced at a time when flagship phone makers are trying to increase battery capacity without significantly increasing device thickness and weight. The Magic9 Super Edition, with its 11,000 mAh battery, 8.1 mm thickness, and 227 g weight, attempts to balance these features.
On the other hand, the use of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 alongside the active cooling system shows Honor did not stop at increasing battery capacity and has tried to maintain high processing power during long-term use.
Overall, the Magic9 and Magic9 Super Edition offer a combination of very high-capacity batteries, OLED displays with high refresh rates, very high-resolution cameras, and AI-based image processing; while the Super Edition, with its 30,000 RPM fan, provides a different approach to heat control and maintaining stable performance for users.
