Meta is rolling out two new AI tools to simplify the process of making games with artificial intelligence.

According to ITNA, quoting Techspot, these tools, named Horizon Create and Horizon Studio, are designed so users can create 2D or 3D mobile games using prompts. Both tools are initially being offered in early access, and Meta has begun signing users up for a waitlist.

Horizon Create is a mobile app, while Horizon Studio runs in the browser and gives creators finer controls for building and editing games. Meta says generated games can include features like multiplayer, progression systems, art design, and difficulty adjustments. Users can also modify different parts of a game after an initial version is produced by the AI.

Meta has not yet provided full details about how much control users will have over game logic, artwork, and other technical components generated by the AI. Nevertheless, the company presents the new tools as for building complete games, not just short interactive experiences.

This move puts Horizon into competition with new AI-based game creation tools. For example, Google’s Project Genie can also generate short interactive experiences, but Meta emphasizes that Horizon Create and Horizon Studio are designed to build games with more complex systems suitable for longer play sessions.

One of the most important features of Meta’s new tools is how the games are distributed. Games made with Horizon Create and Horizon Studio can be surfaced to users in the Facebook and Instagram feeds, and people can run them without leaving those apps. For example, a user who sees a game-related video on Instagram can quickly join a multiplayer game without needing to download a separate app.

This approach is also part of Meta’s effort to reduce Horizon’s reliance on virtual reality (VR). Horizon was originally better known as a VR platform, but Meta has placed more emphasis on mobile accessibility in recent months. Placing Horizon games in Facebook and Instagram could expose them to a much larger user community.

At the same time, Meta is entering a market where Roblox holds a significant position. Roblox has about 123 million daily active users and itself has been moving toward using AI to simplify game creation. Meta’s tools aim to take a different path to attract creators and players by combining AI-driven game generation with direct distribution on Facebook and Instagram.
