Japanese news agency Kyodo reported that Monogatari Corp. - which operates the Yakiniku King chain of barbecue restaurants - announced that following unauthorized access to the company’s reservation and rewards app, the data of more than 10 million customers has been leaked.
The disclosed information included customers’ names, email addresses, phone numbers, and membership numbers.
The company said the data breach was identified on Friday and so far there is no evidence of misuse of the disclosed information.
In a separate report, Kyodo said that Daiwa Securities Group also announced that the information of about 110,000 customers of its brokerage division may have been exposed due to unauthorized access to a server that was operated by a contractor.
The intrusion occurred between Friday evening and Saturday morning on a server owned by Scala Communications. That company provides online request management services for Daiwa Securities.
The information that may have been exposed includes names, email addresses, and account numbers.
Including requests that did not contain personal information, around 220,000 data items may have been leaked in this incident.
Daiwa said that the exposed information cannot be used to carry out transactions, including online trading.
