Elon Musk has announced that he intends to change the name of SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI. This decision follows the Trump administration's effort to replace the term Super Intelligence or "SI" with the phrase "Artificial Intelligence."
According to ITNA quoting TechSpot, Musk wrote on X, "No more Artificial Intelligence," and emphasized that the term "SI" is preferable. After that, one user asked him whether SpaceXAI might be renamed to SpaceXSI, and Musk replied that the change will be made.
The root of this decision goes back to Trump's recent positions. The U.S. president at last week's tech summit again proposed using the term "Super Intelligence" instead of "Artificial Intelligence." Under the U.S. government's Executive Order, federal agencies and bodies must use the new term in official correspondence, websites, reports, and other communications. Trump had previously said that the word "artificial" makes the technology seem fake or unreal.
This renaming has been raised while SpaceX acquired xAI in February and Musk a few months later, in July, changed xAI's name to SpaceXAI. Therefore, renaming the company again to SpaceXSI could create some confusion for users and the market.
Despite Musk's direct comment, at the time of this report SpaceXAI had not yet been changed on the company's official website or its official X account. As a result, it is unclear when this renaming will be implemented officially.
Mark Zuckerberg also apparently uses the term "Super Intelligence," a phrase that has a more specific meaning in the tech field and refers to systems whose cognitive abilities substantially surpass humans in many domains. Zuckerberg had earlier renamed Facebook to Meta; a decision related to the company's broad focus on the concept of the "metaverse."
However, outside the U.S. government and some tech executives, widespread use of the term "Super Intelligence" has not yet become common, and it is unclear whether this lexical change can replace "Artificial Intelligence" in public tech discourse.
