Samsung introduced the Galaxy SmartTag 3 as the new generation of its smart tracker.

According to ITNA, quoting Phonearena, this product is smaller and lighter than the SmartTag 2 and, while keeping the price of $29.99 for a single unit, offers longer battery life. A four-pack will also be offered at $99.99, and its white and black versions will be available in the US from early November.

The most important change in the Galaxy SmartTag 3 is iPhone support. In previous generations, using the SmartTag was limited to Samsung phones and tablets; but now iPhone users can view and share the tag’s location and use the Search Nearby feature in the SmartThings Find service. Samsung has also confirmed that the SmartTag 3 is compatible with other Android devices that have access to the Google Play Store, and users can install the SmartThings and Samsung Find apps on them.

However, Samsung has still reserved some advanced features for Galaxy phones. Features such as Compass View, Ring Phone, and Left Behind Alert are available to Galaxy device users. So while iPhone users can now use the SmartTag, they still do not have access to all of its features.

Samsung has also made progress on the battery front. The SmartTag 3 lasts up to 550 days in normal mode and up to 790 days in power-saving mode; while these figures for the SmartTag 2 were 500 and 700 days, respectively.

Another important change is the improved Compass View capability. This feature can now guide the user toward the tag from up to 60 meters away; that is three times farther than the previous generation. Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding measurement technology is also used alongside ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for more accurate distance determination, although it is currently active only on some new Galaxy models including the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy S26 Plus.

In terms of competition with Apple’s second-generation AirTag, the SmartTag 3 is now a more attractive option for iPhone users; though the AirTag’s precise-finding capability remains its important advantage. Overall, a smaller body, increased battery life, and iPhone support are the most important upgrades of Samsung’s new tracker generation.
