Google is rolling out a new update for the Pixel Watch 4 that adds one of the Pixel Watch 5’s attractive features - creating watch faces with the help of artificial intelligence - to this model. This feature allows users to design their desired watch face with a text description and customize their watch’s appearance to their taste.
According to ITPna and citing 9to5Google, based on reports from users on the social network Reddit, the new feature is being released with software version 4.2.12.989940186. In addition to the AI watch-face generator, this update also provides several of the Pixel Watch 5’s default watch faces to users. Among these designs are Weave, Modular, Reveal, and Chronograph. A dedicated Steph Curry watch face is also among the new options.
To use the intelligent design feature, users can select the description input section when creating a new watch face through the Pixel Watch app. Then they simply describe their desired appearance in natural language and the Gemini AI will generate a suitable design based on that request. This way, users no longer have to choose only from a set of preset templates.
This feature is especially useful for people who like to frequently change their watch’s appearance or have different designs for different days of the week. Of course, the watch-face generator has limitations and the final result may not always exactly match the user’s request.
The release of this feature for the Pixel Watch 4 was not unexpected; the Pixel Watch 5 did not have many fundamental changes and a significant part of its improvements related to AI performance. Nevertheless, adding this feature to Google’s previous-generation watch is a positive development for users.
The update is rolling out gradually; therefore it may take some time before it becomes available to all Pixel Watch 4 users.
