Is the Pixel 11 Pro a slap in the face to Android enthusiasts?

Google's Pixel 11 series, despite its greater focus on artificial intelligence and user experience, has faced criticism from professional users and long-time Android enthusiasts.

According to Eitna, citing Android Authority, the main focus of these criticisms is the price increase of the new phones alongside a reduction in RAM in the Pro models; an issue that has led some to believe Google has drifted further away from the tech-enthusiast community.

One of the most controversial changes in the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL is the use of 12 GB of RAM compared with 16 GB in the previous generation. The author believes this RAM reduction will not necessarily have a noticeable effect on the phone's everyday performance, but for a product priced at $1,300 it is hard for professional users to accept. Meanwhile, Google has focused on features like HiLight and Quick Share compatibility with AirDrop.

From the author's perspective, Google has gradually shifted its strategy in recent years, focusing more on software experience, artificial intelligence, and practical features instead of competing on hardware specifications. This approach apparently paid off, as Pixel phone sales have improved in recent years and ordinary users are more satisfied with a smooth, practical experience than specifications such as RAM, the Tensor chip, or modem performance.

However, the price increase of the Pixel 11 Pro has made comparison with the Galaxy S26 Ultra more serious. In the same price range, Samsung offers the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, One UI, and powerful cameras. Therefore, the author believes the Tensor G6 must make significant performance improvements, especially in gaming, to justify buying a Pixel.

Ultimately, the piece argues that Google may not have intended to compete directly with Samsung's flagships from the start, but the Pixel 11's price increase has put the company into such a competition; a competition that, the author believes, may ultimately put the most pressure on long-time and professional Pixel enthusiasts.
