Google has officially announced the release of the Gemini app for Windows-based computers; a move that brings this AI assistant beyond the browser and allows direct access to it from the desktop while using other applications. This app has been made available to users globally since September 10 (Shahrivar 19).
With this update, PC users can summon Gemini from anywhere on their device simply by pressing the Alt + Space shortcut. Doing so brings up a quick window on the screen through which one can ask questions, write text, or perform summarization; without needing to open a browser.
The app runs on Windows 10 and newer versions and also supports devices with x64 and ARM64 architectures; a feature that makes it accessible to a wide range of Windows-equipped computers.
Gemini for Windows acts as more than a simple AI chat tool, as it can integrate with a number of Google services including Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Calendar.
After granting the necessary permissions by the user, simultaneous access to information from these services is enabled while performing tasks; such that the user can, through conversation with Gemini, search their emails, use the contents of documents and files, or access events recorded in their calendar.
The app also provides access to a collection of other Google AI tools; including tools for generating visual and image content and other capabilities designed for performing more complex tasks.
