Sony has begun rolling out Android 17 for Xperia phones and initially equips five of its models with the new version of Google's operating system. This list includes Sony’s current flagship, two previous-generation flagships, and two mid-range phones.
According to ITna quoting Phonearena, the models receiving Android 17 are the Sony Xperia 1 VIII, Xperia 1 VII, Xperia 1 VI, Xperia 10 VIII, and Xperia 10 VII. Sony announced this on its UK support website, although it is not yet clear whether this update has been released simultaneously in other countries or will be offered for more models in the future.
Android 17 brings new features to Xperia phones. One of the most important changes is a desktop mode for external displays, which will be available on the Xperia 1 VIII, Xperia 1 VII, and Xperia 1 VI. Users can connect the phone to a compatible display and run multiple apps simultaneously like on a computer. The ability to use a mouse and keyboard also makes working with emails and documents easier.
Other features of this version include greater lock screen customization, expanded quick settings, improved screen recording, new wallpapers, and the ability to change icon shapes and styles. On the Xperia 1 VIII, users can also save three sets of personalized settings for color tone, contrast, and image processing and quickly switch between them.
To install Android 17, users of compatible phones can go to Settings > Software update. However, Sony has not yet provided full information about releasing this version for other Xperia models.
