Apple held its first event without Tim Cook as CEO; an event led by John Ternus, the company's new CEO, which attracted attention with the introduction of the iPhone Duo as a possible shift in Apple's direction. Prior to this event, a poll of 734 respondents asked about Apple's future under Ternus's leadership.
According to ITna citing PhoneArena, the poll results showed that 54.36% of participants expect Apple to continue its gradual growth as before. In contrast, 21.39% believed Apple could grow faster under the new CEO. About 20.57% suggested a gradual decline for Apple, and only 3.68% expected a rapid fall for the company.
However, the introduction of the iPhone Duo could be a reason for optimism for the second group. The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable phone and arrives after years of companies like Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola operating in this market. Apple had effectively stayed away from the foldable phone market during that time, so its entry into this area could be one of the biggest iPhone design changes in nearly two decades.
Another notable change is the iPhone Duo's support for the Apple Pencil; a decision that differs somewhat from Steve Jobs's traditional view about using a stylus on touchscreens. Ternus has previously said he never considered that view to be an absolute rule.
Ternus, who has been with Apple since 2001 and was responsible for hardware for many years, has been directly involved in the development of many new products. For this reason, the author believes the first products introduced during his tenure could be an indication of accelerating innovation at Apple.
Of course, current products like the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, AirPods 5, and the new Apple Watches were largely developed during Tim Cook's era. To judge Ternus's approach more accurately, we must wait for next year's products; products that will be shaped from the start by the new CEO's vision.
