HP has unveiled the new OmniBook 5 laptop; a product that could be a rival to Apple's MacBook Neo. This laptop will be offered with a base price of $699 and is set to arrive in stores in October, coinciding with the holiday shopping season.
According to ITNA citing TechSpot, the base OmniBook 5 model is equipped with a 14-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1920 by 1200 pixels. This display is touch-enabled, covered with Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and can reproduce 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color space. HP has used an Intel Core 5 320 processor for processing, alongside 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and integrated Intel graphics.
In storage, the base model is equipped with a PCIe Gen4 SSD with a capacity of 256 GB. By paying an additional $50, the storage capacity increases to 512 GB.
The OmniBook 5 is technically considered an AI PC because it includes a neural processing unit (NPU) with 16 TOPS of performance. However, HP and Microsoft have not promoted the device's AI capabilities heavily.
One of the laptop's strengths is its battery life. HP claims the device's battery can last up to 42 hours of local video playback. Fast-charging technology also enables the battery to go from zero to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.
Other features of the OmniBook 5 include Wi‑Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, an HDMI 2.1 output, two Type-C ports, a combined headphone and microphone jack, a 1080p webcam with two microphones, and two stereo speakers.
Weighing about 1.18 kilograms and measuring 11.7 millimeters thick, this laptop will be available in four colors: pink, silver, blue, and green. A full backlit keyboard, HP Imagepad, and Windows 11 Home are among its other features. The base OmniBook 5 model will hit the market in October priced at $699.
