Microsoft is redesigning Windows 11's search feature so this tool goes beyond a simple box for finding files and becomes a smarter experience, similar to AI-based assistants.
According to Itona quoting Techspot, the new design, in addition to improving speed and performance, allows some everyday tasks and changing system settings directly through the search bar.
According to Microsoft, the new version of Windows Search is developed based on the WinUI 3 API and user interface. This change can improve the search tool's performance and optimize resource usage. The company has also tried to simplify users' access to needed information by consolidating result lists and previews.
Another new capability is better understanding of search phrases. The system can show more relevant results when faced with typos and synonyms. In this way, users can find the files and information they want with more natural searches.
Windows Search is also expected to provide richer previews of online information. Users can view information such as the weather and answers to some general questions without leaving the taskbar.
The most important change is the addition of "Inline Actions." This feature allows users to change some system settings directly from the search environment, enable or disable options, and manage certain window and display settings; without having to open another app or go into different settings sections.
Although Microsoft has not explicitly said these features work using large language models (LLMs), the company's ultimate goal is to turn Windows Search into an experience similar to Copilot. This increases the likelihood of a greater role for AI in future versions.
