About this place

The built-up area is 1200 meters, has 15 rooms and is about 200 years old. This residence is one of the oldest houses on Kish Island and belonged to the late Haj Abdollah ibn Shahin; a pearl merchant, owner of one of the largest sailing dhows of its time and skilled in trade and galafi (dhow-building). The house has been converted into the Kish Indigenous Ethnology House to introduce the history, culture, customs, livelihoods and handicrafts of Kish’s indigenous people, generate employment, encourage local participation in tourism, and achieve sustainable tourism development; all spaces have been restored preserving the traditional architecture and using local materials, and it represents the lifestyle of Kish’s indigenous people over the past 80 years.
