Harireh Beach Complex

This complex is located at the far end of the route visiting the Harireh monuments and adjacent to the beach, and its approximate area is about 400 square meters. The identified architectural spaces include rooms, spaces with grooved floors (chandol) sometimes mentioned as date storage/central courtyard, open spaces, a staircase to the upper floor, and wells and channels that lead into the complex; all spaces are built on the coral rock and the beach complex is composed of two separate eastern and western parts. The materials used are rubble stones, islandal pebbles and limestones with marine lime mortar and coral stone powder; in the rooms with grooved floors a mortar composed of coral stone powder, lime and a type of sarooj has been used. On the forecourt of the complex on the rocky shore which is approximately 4 to 5 meters above sea level, there are four wells and a hand-carved stone staircase; the diameter of the mouths of these wells is often 2 meters and their depth reaches the sea level. Various theories have been proposed regarding the use of these wells, including: easy access to seawater, disposal of used water, escape route in emergency situations, technical and installation use for ventilation in the coastal rocks and connection with navigation, fishing and coral harvesting.
