Rumors and leaked information about the next-generation iPhone indicate the iPhone 18 Pro may be equipped with a chip based on 2-nanometer process technology; a change that, if realized, could noticeably improve the processing performance and energy efficiency of Apple's flagship phones.

According to published reports, Apple intends to produce the Pro 20A chip using TSMC's 2-nanometer process. Besides increasing processing power, this technology can reduce the chip's energy consumption; although the high production cost of 2-nanometer chips may ultimately raise the price of the new iPhone generation.

18% performance increase and 30% energy reduction

According to information released by a technology leaker named Digital Focus Fix, the Pro 20A chip could offer about 18% higher performance compared to the Pro 19A chip. It is also said that the energy consumption of this chip will be reduced by around 30%.

If these claims are true, iPhone 18 Pro users can expect better performance in heavy processing, less heat generation, and lower energy consumption. Reduced energy consumption can also help increase battery life, especially when running games and heavy applications.

GAA technology at the heart of the 2nm chip

The new Apple chip is said to use Gate-All-Around or GAA transistor technology. In this architecture, the control of electrical current in the transistor channel is performed more precisely, and this can pave the way for increased transistor density, improved performance, and reduced energy consumption.

Moving to a 2-nanometer process is considered one of the most important steps in the semiconductor industry, but producing chips with this technology in the early stages is costly. Therefore, increased production cost could be one of Apple's main challenges in using this technology.

Possibility of a price increase for the iPhone 18 Pro

Higher chip production cost is not the only factor that could raise the iPhone 18 Pro's price. According to some reports, a global increase in memory prices could also raise the component costs of the next-generation iPhone.

Some published estimates indicate that the total component cost of the iPhone 18 Pro could increase by up to 40% as a result of higher chip and memory costs. In such a scenario, there would also be a possibility of an increase in the phone's final price.

Based on current forecasts, the base price of the iPhone 18 Pro may start at around $1,399; a figure that, if realized, could make the next-generation Pro iPhones one of the most expensive models in this family.

Of course, it should be noted that the specifications of the Pro 20A chip, the exact performance increase, and the final price of the iPhone 18 Pro have not yet been confirmed by Apple, and this information remains in the realm of rumors and unofficial reports.
