Qualcomm has officially given an initial unveiling of its next-generation flagship chips; chips expected to be the beating heart of next year’s flagship Android phones, including the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
According to ITNA quoting Phonearena, the company announced that two new chips will be introduced on September 22, 2026, at the annual Snapdragon Summit.
Based on leaked information, these two chips will likely be called the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Qualcomm referred to the two new chips in its teaser as “Dual 8 Elites” and focused on increasing GPU power and immersive gaming experience.
The more powerful version, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, apparently will be manufactured on TSMC’s 2-nanometer process and will use the eight-core Oryon architecture in a 2+3+3 configuration. This chip will also be equipped with the Adreno 850 GPU, 18 MB of cache, and support for LPDDR6 RAM. In contrast, the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will likely be produced on a 3-nanometer process, feature the Adreno 845 GPU, and support LPDDR5X.
Leaked benchmark results also report very high performance for the Pro version. This chip scored about 4.83 million in AnTuTu and recorded scores of 4388 single-core and 14273 multi-core in Geekbench.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to be equipped with the Pro version of this chip and, likely as in previous generations, a dedicated “For Galaxy” variant will be offered for Samsung’s flagship. In contrast, the regular Galaxy S27 will probably use the standard version.
However, greater power may come at a heavy cost. Rumors put the price of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro at around $300; a very high figure for a mobile chip that could, along with increased memory costs, raise the final price of the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Some estimates put the phone’s price at around $1300.
