Sending a photograph

Send the original file. A photograph forwarded through a messenger has usually been compressed to a fraction of its size, which is enough to look at and not enough to publish. Attach it from your gallery rather than forwarding a chat message.

Do not add a watermark, a frame or a filter. If we publish it we add the credit ourselves, and a watermark is the one thing that cannot be removed later.

Landscape and portrait are both fine. For a card on our social accounts a portrait photograph works better; for the website, landscape.

Keep the location and time information in the file if you can — it helps us confirm where and when something happened, and it is never published.

Sending a video — please read the part about music

Music you did not make is the most common reason a video cannot be used. Instagram, Telegram and the rest match audio automatically, and a clip with a commercial track on it is muted, blocked or taken down — usually without warning.

If your video has only music over it and no real recorded sound, keep it under 27 seconds. Short clips of that length normally pass those automatic checks; longer ones normally do not. This is what happens in practice, not a rule of law — a rights holder can still object at any length.

A video with its own natural sound has no such limit. The wind, the sea, traffic, people talking — that is your recording, and it is the audio we would rather have anyway.

Best of all: send it with no music at all and let the pictures carry it. If a soundtrack is wanted, we add one we are licensed to use.

Hold the camera horizontally for the website and vertically for stories. Steady and short beats long and shaky.

Your work stays yours — and it must be yours

Send only what you made yourself. Do not send photographs, video, audio or writing made by somebody else — not from Instagram or Telegram, not from a news site, not from a stock library, and not a screenshot of any of them. If you did not take it or write it, we cannot use it.

You keep the copyright. Sending it here does not transfer ownership. What you give us is permission to publish it on this platform and on the accounts belonging to it, alongside your name if you have asked for that.

We may not publish it at all, and we may shorten, crop or caption what we do publish. Nothing is published automatically — a person reads everything first.

Other people in the frame matter. If somebody is identifiable and the setting is private, ask them first. Children need the agreement of a parent.

If you later change your mind, write to us with the reference number you are given and we will take it down.

What the law here does not allow

This platform is published from Kish and follows the laws of Iran, including the rules for computer crimes and for publishing.

Please do not send: anything filmed inside a military, security or restricted area; other people’s private information — telephone numbers, addresses, documents or medical details; accusations against a named person or organisation that you cannot support; anything obscene, or anything that insults a religion or an ethnic group.

Photographing or filming inside customs areas, airport security zones and port facilities is restricted. If a sign or an official says no, that is the answer.

A report about a crime or an emergency belongs with the authorities first — call 110 for police, 115 for an ambulance and 125 for fire. Sending it here does not reach them.
