About this place
The Dolphin recreational complex, covering an area of about 100 hectares, is located in the southeastern part of Kish Island and includes green space with various plant species, a bird garden, and Iran’s first and only dolphinarium. In the dolphinarium, various species of marine mammals are kept, including dolphins, northern and southern sea lions, northern fur seals, walruses, and penguins; in total 21 marine mammals are housed in pools with a volume of 18,000 cubic meters filled with seawater, and visitors watch their performances trained by Iranian trainers. Visitors are guided by a tram bus to the bird park and then to the dolphinarium.
The park’s green space includes more than one hundred plant species, including thousands of palm trees, very large benjamina, laurel (banyan) trees, eucalyptus, acacia, myrtle, prosopis, hollyhock, glasswort, tecoma, black Newfield, candelabra tree, Junia pros, and more than 25 species of cactus; this complex is unique in its kind given the climate conditions and the coral nature of Kish’s soil. The bird garden within the grounds contains more than 57 bird species including pelicans, ostriches, macaw parrots, various storks, toucans, turacos, swans, African penguins, and rare species such as the short-snouted crocodile, and the species have been gathered from different parts of the world from South America to Australia and from East Asia to Africa.
