The Winter Palace is located in the eastern part of Kish Island and, because of the type of land, vegetation cover, wide sandy shoreline and the natural form of the cape, provided a suitable location for construction of facilities and utilization of the sea. This palace, also known as Palace No. 1 and Palace Elite, was the residence of the Pahlavi II family; its construction began in 1969 and it was inaugurated on Nowruz 1972 (solar Hijri 1351). The structure was executed with a reinforced concrete frame and concrete roofs, and its architecture is characterized by the use of non-geometric shapes and broken lines, wide sunshades and shading devices, fixed modulation, and oblique walls and bodies to facilitate airflow.
