The Kia EV3 has officially entered the U.S. market, and this small, affordable electric SUV could play an important role in Kia's sales growth in that country. The 2027 model's base price is only $29,890, which places the EV3 among the cheapest electric vehicles in the U.S. market alongside the Chevrolet Bolt EV and the Nissan Leaf.
According to Etna quoting Electrek, the launch of the EV3 comes as Kia continues to maintain a strong momentum in the U.S. market. The company managed to sell 83,793 vehicles in August 2026, a new monthly record. Kia's sales in the first eight months of the year also reached 590,377 units; a figure that represents a 3 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Kia's hybrid and electric vehicles are major contributors to this growth. Sales of the company's hybrid vehicles increased by 111 percent in the first eight months of the year, and sales of electric and electrified models grew by 60 percent. However, the performance of the current fully electric vehicles has not been uniform. EV6 sales fell 60 percent in August and the EV9 also experienced a 33 percent decline. Kia hopes the EV3 can change this trend.
The Kia EV3 is offered in five trims: Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT, and customers can choose between front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive powertrains. The base Light FWD model is equipped with a 58.3 kWh battery and is estimated by the EPA to have a range of up to 221 miles, equivalent to about 356 kilometers.
Higher trims use a larger 81.4 kWh battery and in front-wheel-drive versions can travel up to 321 miles, that is about 517 kilometers, on a single charge. All-wheel-drive models, due to higher energy consumption, have a maximum range of 280 miles, equivalent to about 451 kilometers.
All EV3 trims come standard with an NACS port; therefore American owners can access Tesla Superchargers without using an adapter. DC fast charging can bring the 58.3 kWh battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 29 minutes, while the 81.4 kWh battery requires about 31 minutes.
Given the competitive price, suitable dimensions, over 500 kilometers of range in some versions, and growing demand for affordable electric vehicles, the EV3 could become one of Kia's important products in the U.S. market; especially since this model has already gained considerable popularity in Europe and the United Kingdom.
