Google Keep may soon make creating and editing notes easier with a functional redesign. Instead of adding numerous AI features, Google is focusing on simple but practical improvements so users can add different elements such as checklists, images, drawings, and voice text to their notes faster.

According to ITNA quoting Android Authority, the most important experimental change is a floating, pill-shaped Google Keep toolbar. This toolbar was seen in beta version 5.26.361.01.90 and is not yet enabled for all users. The new design makes some features that were previously in submenus directly accessible.

One of the major changes concerns checklists. Users can now convert a regular note into a list with a dedicated button. Google is also testing a feature that allows converting a checklist back to plain text; a feature that currently is only possible using the Undo button. In addition, there is an option to uncheck all completed items at once.

Adding an image will no longer be hidden in the “+” menu and will get its own dedicated button on the toolbar. Voice typing has also been moved to this bar so users can convert their speech to text with one fewer step. This feature still only transcribes speech and, unlike some AI features of Gboard, does not interpret or rewrite the spoken content.

The drawing option has likewise found a direct place on the new toolbar. However, the experimental design is not yet complete and some current features, including note formatting and backgrounds, are not present. Also, some search and delete options are not available in the experimental version and the toolbar does not automatically hide when the keyboard opens.

Therefore, these changes are likely still under development and may change before public release.
