The deputy of the Cyber Police's social division, warning about the increase in fraud techniques in the cryptocurrency sector, said: promises of high guaranteed returns, fake wallets and exchanges, fraudulent airdrops, and transactions on social networks are among the scammers' tactics, and users must ensure the platform's credibility and legality before any investment.
Colonel Javad Mokhtarzadeh, rejecting promises of astronomical profits, said: no legitimate investment offers guaranteed returns; promises of high and fixed profits are definitive signs of fraud. Before any investment, make sure the platform's activities are legal and that it holds the necessary licenses.
Referring to fake wallets and exchanges, he stated: download wallet and exchange applications only from official and reputable websites. Do not click on unknown links sent via SMS, email, or social networks under any circumstances, because these links often direct you to phishing pages and lead to account information theft or the draining of your wallet.
Do not give your "wallet recovery phrase" to anyone
The Cyber Police's deputy, regarding the private key, said: do not give your wallet recovery phrase or seed phrase to anyone. Anyone who has these words has full access to all your assets. No support staff or expert from a reputable exchange will request such sensitive information from you.
Owners of rented accounts are accomplices if fraud is committed using their account
According to ISNA, Colonel Mokhtarzadeh, referring to rented accounts, emphasized: providing a bank account, cryptocurrency wallet, or buying cryptocurrency for others, even in exchange for money or under various work-related titles, makes you an accomplice. Keep in mind that the responsibility for all transactions and legal consequences arising from criminal activities, money laundering, and fraud conducted through that account lies directly with the account owner.
High risk of trading in Telegram and Instagram groups
He further referred to person-to-person (P2P) transactions and stated: trading cryptocurrency through Telegram and Instagram groups carries very high risk; there is a possibility of money being blocked, receiving stolen cryptocurrencies, or your accounts being frozen in such transactions. To protect your assets, use only licensed and reputable exchanges.
Do not connect your wallet to unknown websites
Referring to airdrop scams and fake tokens, he continued: messages that claim you can receive free cryptocurrency by clicking a link or connecting your wallet are in most cases an attempt to drain your assets. Never connect your wallet to unknown websites, because by doing so you grant scammers full access to your account.
