Tesla has introduced a set of new updates for the Model 3 in China. These changes come as the Tesla Roadster introduction has been delayed again and the American automaker needs to upgrade its products to maintain its position in China’s highly competitive electric vehicle market.
According to ITNA, citing Arenaev, the most important change to the new Model 3 is the use of a 16-inch central display. This display, besides being larger, also offers higher image resolution and refresh rate; although Tesla has not yet announced the exact details related to these two specifications. Such a change could improve the experience of using the vehicle’s infotainment and information systems.
Another added feature is the ability to supply power to external equipment, or Vehicle-to-Load (V2L). This technology enables AC output with a maximum power of 2.2 kilowatts and can be used to power various electrical appliances outside the vehicle. However, buyers must purchase a separate adapter to use this feature.
Tesla has also offered a new interior option for the Model 3. Customers can now order the gray cabin known as “Premium” along with a black fabric headliner.
Interestingly, the 16-inch display and gray cabin were previously offered in January for the Model Y in the United States. Therefore, it is likely that these changes may find their way to the U.S. market in the future.
The base price of the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 in China remains 235,500 yuan, equivalent to about $35,100. However, Tesla is offering discounts and incentives for orders placed through October 31 that reduce the effective price of the car to about $33,000.
