Fiat has unveiled the Multiplay concept; a multipurpose vehicle inspired by the controversial Multipla model, offering a combination of SUV, minivan and compact pickup. This concept has been developed to increase the flexibility of family cars, but no information has yet been released about its mass-production timing or technical specifications.
According to ETNA citing ArenaEV, the most important feature of the Fiat Multiplay is its movable rear section that allows the vehicle’s configuration to be changed. In minivan mode, the car can accommodate six adult or child passengers and one pet passenger. Attachment points for installing child seats have also been considered. Of course, using this arrangement limits cargo space.
By changing the seat arrangement and moving the rear row forward, the Multiplay converts into a pickup. In this configuration, four passengers can be present in the cabin and more space is provided for carrying cargo or a pet. In addition, the spoiler fitted on the rear can be used as a bicycle rack base; a feature that increases the vehicle’s recreational uses.
The exterior design of the Multiplay is inspired by the old Multipla model, but modern LED lights give it a forward-looking appearance. The panoramic roof also brightens the cabin space. The front passenger seat can rotate toward the rear row and can create a lounge-like space.
Although Fiat has not yet announced engine details or the launch time of the production version, the long wheelbase and short, grille-less front suggest the possibility of this car being electric. However, the Multiplay’s electrification has not been confirmed.
Overall, the Multiplay concept shows that Fiat is seeking to redefine family cars with a Modular Design and usability in various conditions; an approach that, if it reaches production, could provide a different option for families and enthusiasts of travel and outdoor activities.
