BYD has started taking orders for the Great Han, its new flagship electric sedan, in China. This car is the first D-segment flagship sedan in BYD's Dynasty family and will enter the market with a base price of 249,900 yuan, about $37,200.
According to ITNA quoting Electrek, the most important feature of the BYD Great Han is its driving range. The rear-wheel-drive versions of this car are equipped with a 370 kW electric motor producing 496 horsepower and a 102.326 kWh battery, and according to the CLTC standard can travel up to 1,008 kilometers on a single charge. The Flagship model is also offered at a price of 269,900 yuan, about $40,200.
BYD has also planned an all-wheel-drive version of the Great Han. With the addition of an electric motor at the front axle, this model produces a combined power of 570 kW, equivalent to 764 horsepower. However, due to the more powerful performance, the AWD version's range is reduced to 880 kilometers.
All Great Han models use Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technology. This technology, with a 1,500 kW charger, enables the battery charge to increase from 10 to 70 percent in just 5 minutes. Charging from 10 to 97 percent also takes about 9 minutes; a capability that can largely reduce concerns about EV charging time.
At 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, the Great Han is even larger than the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air and in terms of dimensions is closer to the long-wheelbase Mercedes‑Benz S‑Class.
Features of this sedan include the DiSus-A two-chamber air suspension, rear-wheel steering, front seats known as Zero Gravity, and the God’s Eye B intelligent driving system. This system offers advanced driver-assistance features including automatic navigation and remote parking.
The arrival of the Great Han shows that BYD, alongside its more economical cars, is also pursuing a more serious presence in the luxury and flagship electric vehicle market.
