Austrian company Aviloo ( AVILOO ) has published the world’s largest independent study on the battery health of used electric cars using its proprietary test called "FLiSH".
In this research, the median battery health for each model was calculated at three mileage points - 50,000, 100,000, and 150,000 kilometers - and reported along with the range covering 99 percent of vehicles.
Marcus Berger, CEO of Aviloo, says the hidden reality in these data is that averages hide many differences. According to him, although electric car batteries perform better than the myth of "rapid degradation," the more important point is the striking difference in battery health between different models and even among identical cars.
He adds that a ten to fifteen percent gap in battery health creates a real difference in range, value, and reliability of the car, and only through independent testing can the true standing of each vehicle be determined.
According to ITNA and citing Interesting Engineering, the FLiSH test is said to be an independent three-minute diagnostic performed via the vehicle’s OBD port and, unlike the car’s dashboard, provides an independent battery health certificate that buyers, dealerships, fleet operators, insurers, and lenders can rely on.
It is noted that battery health can differ by up to 13.5 percent between the best and worst examples of a model. Cars with smaller batteries that require frequent charging show faster degradation compared with models that have larger batteries.
Aviloo also launched its battery warranty across Europe this summer for buyers of used electric cars.
