About this place

The remains of **Harireh City** can be seen along the harbor buildings and its offices; according to the Cultural Heritage Organization it is about eight hundred years old and the expanse of its mounds and ruins is about 120 hectares. The city’s golden age was from 367 to 912 AH and what remains are mainly masses of urban architecture, with only in some spots the stone vaulted coverings preserved intact. The port of this city was integrated and outward-looking and lacks signs of the inward-looking defensive architecture of historical Iranian cities; the choice of the northern shore of the island to found the city was logical because the shore is rocky (about ten meters above sea level), there are three bays and a headland serving as a natural harbor, and the sea is relatively calmer. So far archaeological excavations have been carried out in three separate complexes: the noble house with star tiles similar to Ilkhanid works indicating belonging to a Kish wealthy person; the workshop and industrial section by the sea with horizontal and underground channels and wells that may be connected to fishing activities or hidden routes; and the bath complex with an approximate enclosure of 500 square meters, a cold room, a hot room and a furnace in the south connected to a covered corridor and two cisterns, which is identified with two Ilkhanid and Timurid periods and was probably a private bath belonging to the owner of the noble house.
