About this place
At the end of the longest ancient freshwater channel of Kish, surface waters flow into the northern part of the island, or the “Valley of the Portuguese,” and the Green Tree complex has been built around one of the island’s oldest Laurel trees. The complex, with gazebos, multiple kebab-cooking areas and an evergreen space accompanied by walkways that have lantern-shaped lights and bougainvillea, provides free admission and rest for tourists; a prayer room, seasonal restaurant, buffet and sanitary facilities are available in the complex.
The Green Tree is the island’s oldest Laurel tree and is probably between 500 and 600 years old; its exposed roots and hanging leaves and its ancient bark distinguish it. Knots of string or cloth can be seen on the branches and some people consider it auspicious and tie cloth to it. The complex has two entrances; one shared with the ancient city of Harireh and the other adjacent to the traditional water reservoir, and only a few minutes’ walk are needed to visit these two attractions as well.
