Hendorabi Island, with an area of 21.95 square kilometers and a coastline length of 30.57 kilometers, is located between Kish Island and Lavan and at a distance of 325 kilometers from Bandar Abbas, the capital of Hormozgan province. This island is an almost flat land without natural features that slopes gently to the sea. Its highest point is about 33 meters above sea level. The distance from Hendorabi Island to its parent island, Kish, by the shortest sea route is 26.83 kilometers; the island is located northwest of Kish. Its distance to the mainland (the village of Chironieh) is also about 7 kilometers.
The vegetation cover of Hendorabi Island consists of several patches of semi-tropical quasi-savanna woodlands and sparse, low-density rangelands. Trees also grow scattered in various areas. In total, 582 trees with a relative density of less than 0.5 trees per hectare have been identified across the island. The most important tree species on Hendorabi are lor, kanar, Iranian teak (Kehur) and gaz.
The fauna of Hendorabi is more diverse than its other biota. Among reptiles, 6 species from two orders and three families have been identified, among which the most famous is the endangered species, the hawksbill turtle, which nests on the island's sandy beaches. From the class Aves, 38 species from six orders and 21 families have been observed on the island, and the Iranian robin is a new report for southern Iran. The coastal plover and the brown-necked raven also breed on lor trees. From the class Mammalia, the non-native black rat has been identified on the island. According to international lists and the regulations of Iran's Department of Environment, 5 protected species, one bird species that is on the verge of being threatened with extinction, and one reptile species that is endangered have been identified on the island.
The coral area of Hendorabi is a very important habitat in the region for various aquatic animals. Coral density is higher on the northern shores of the island, and the northern reef has a depth equivalent to 5 to 8 meters, while the eastern reefs are full of starfish. Aquatic species present in these reefs include various brain corals, surgeonfishes, yellowtail tunas, unicorn, Picasso, sailor and parrotfishes.
