The Green Tree

At the end of the longest ancient watercourse of Kish, surface waters flow into a part of the northern area of the island known as the Portuguese Valley, so this area enjoys particular greenery. Around one of the oldest laure trees of the island, the Green Tree complex has been established.
The greenery of the buildings' grounds and the wooden railings and walkways of this complex recall the northern regions of the country. But one of the factors that draws tourists to this spot is the legendary presence of the Green Tree.
The Green Tree is the oldest laure tree of the island and is probably between 500 and 600 years old. Knots of string or cloth have been tied to the branches of this tree, which at first glance make it appear somewhat sacred. A group of people believe that this tree brings good luck and for that reason tie pieces of cloth to its branches in the hope that their needs will be fulfilled.
The Green Tree complex has been restored with beautiful gazebos and multiple barbecue spots for relaxation, and visitors can tour it free of charge. Walkways with lantern-shaped lights amidst the ever-green space with colorful paper flowers lead you toward the main attraction of the complex. The complex also includes a prayer room, a seasonal restaurant, a buffet and restroom facilities.
The Green Tree complex is located adjacent to two important Kish tourist attractions and has two entrances. One of its gates shares an entrance with the tourist attraction Ancient City of Harireh and its other entrance is adjacent to the traditional water reservoir. In just a few minutes’ walk you can also visit the attractions of the Ancient City of Harireh and the nearby traditional water reservoir adjacent to the Green Tree complex.
The laure or temple fig is the island’s best-known tree. This type grows in the southern regions of Iran. The aged bark of the laure tree and its leaves and roots that hang from its main trunk distinguish it from other tree types. The roots of these trees grow in such a way that they cast a canopy-like shade over the ground and they can live for several hundred years.
